    The Buzz

The 2009 Border Battle at Whitetail Ridge was held August 16th in River Falls. The event brought 639 racers from Wisconsin and Minnesota together to battle it out in the single track, despite the grim weekend forecast and morning-of rainstorm. Local racers: Thomas Baldini, Fred Johnson, Greg Golbrilsch, Kevin Black and Paul Marietta all placed on the top of their catagories in the Citizen and Sport classes. Matt Muraski, a comp racer, finished just seconds back from the lead in his race and seems to be coming into great form for the Fall race season. A great Elite/Pro field showed up to duke it out for the traveling trophy. Wisconsin racers Marko Lalonde and Travis Woodruff kept the rest of the field at bay, making a hard charge on the final climb to pull away from the lead group of five including Jesse Lalonde, Mike Phillips and Brendan Moore. In the women's Pro field, Jenna Rinehart gapped the rest of the pack on the first lap and never looked back to take a win by over 6 minutes. WORS ended up defending the title winning 89-120 in a lowest-points-win contest. The weekend was a great success for KORC as well, whose first ever WTR 5K/10K Trail Run brought 40 runners out to run their feet off.
